Hepatic Steatosis

Meaning

A clinical condition characterized by the pathological, abnormal accumulation of fat, specifically triglycerides, within the main cells of the liver, known as hepatocytes. Commonly referred to as fatty liver disease, it is frequently a hepatic manifestation of underlying systemic metabolic dysfunction, most notably insulin resistance and dyslipidemia, and is a significant precursor to more severe liver pathology like steatohepatitis and fibrosis. This condition can be reversible if the underlying metabolic and hormonal environment is effectively corrected.
