Hepatic SHBG Synthesis

Meaning

Hepatic SHBG Synthesis refers to the biological process, primarily executed by liver (hepatic) cells, that manufactures and secretes Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) into the systemic circulation. SHBG is a critical plasma glycoprotein that binds and transports sex steroids, including testosterone and estradiol, thereby tightly regulating the concentration of their biologically active, unbound free fractions. The rate of this synthesis is a major determinant of a patient’s free hormone levels and clinical status.
