Hepatic Safety

Meaning

The clinical assessment and measure of an intervention’s potential to cause adverse effects or toxicity to the liver, which is the central organ for drug metabolism and detoxification. Hepatic safety evaluation involves monitoring liver function biomarkers, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and observing for signs of drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Ensuring a favorable hepatic safety profile is paramount in the development and long-term use of hormonal therapies.
