Hepatic Protein Synthesis

Meaning

Hepatic protein synthesis is the crucial biochemical process occurring within the liver where amino acids are assembled into functional proteins essential for systemic health. The liver is the primary site for synthesizing numerous circulating proteins, including albumin, coagulation factors, and hormone-binding globulins like Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) and Thyroid-Binding Globulin (TBG). This function is integral to maintaining plasma oncotic pressure, blood clotting, and the transport and bioavailability of hormones.
