Hepatic Glycosylation is the complex, enzyme-catalyzed process occurring primarily in the liver (hepatic cells) where carbohydrate moieties (glycans) are covalently attached to proteins and lipids, forming glycoproteins and glycolipids. This post-translational modification is crucial for the correct folding, stability, and function of many circulating proteins, including numerous hormones, hormone-binding globulins, and acute-phase reactants. Alterations in hepatic glycosylation patterns, often seen in liver disease or chronic inflammation, can significantly impact the biological half-life and activity of endocrine molecules.
