This process is essential for maintaining stable blood glucose levels during periods of fasting, intense exercise, or starvation, ensuring a continuous energy supply for the brain and red blood cells. Hormones like glucagon and cortisol are primary regulators, activating the necessary enzymatic machinery in the hepatocytes.
