Hepatic Enzymes

Meaning

Hepatic enzymes are proteins primarily found within liver cells, known as hepatocytes, where they facilitate essential biochemical reactions. These specific enzymes, including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), serve as crucial indicators of liver health and function. Their presence in the bloodstream above normal levels typically signals cellular damage or dysfunction within the liver or bile ducts.
