Hepatic Dysfunction

Meaning

Hepatic Dysfunction refers to any degree of impairment in the normal functioning of the liver, a highly complex and vital organ central to metabolism, detoxification, and protein synthesis. This condition can manifest as acute liver injury or progress to chronic liver failure, both of which have profound, systemic consequences for the body. Since the liver is the primary site for the metabolism and clearance of hormones and their binding proteins, hepatic dysfunction directly impacts the entire endocrine system and overall hormonal balance. Clinical manifestations often include jaundice, coagulopathy, and a disruption in normal metabolic pathways.
