Hepatic Agonism

Meaning

Hepatic Agonism refers to the pharmacological strategy of activating specific hormone or peptide receptors predominantly located on or within liver cells (hepatocytes). This therapeutic approach is designed to selectively modulate the liver’s metabolic functions, often aiming to improve glucose homeostasis, enhance lipid oxidation, or reduce hepatic steatosis. This strategy is distinct from systemic agonism, which affects multiple tissues simultaneously, providing a more targeted metabolic intervention.
