Hepatic Adenoma

Meaning

A hepatic adenoma is a rare, benign tumor of the liver, typically composed of normal-appearing hepatocytes but lacking the organized structure of the normal liver lobule. These tumors are highly relevant in the hormonal health space because their development and growth are strongly associated with exogenous hormone exposure, particularly oral estrogen use. While generally benign, hepatic adenomas carry a small but significant risk of complications, including spontaneous rupture leading to internal hemorrhage and, in rare instances, malignant transformation. Clinical management often involves discontinuing the causative hormonal agent and careful monitoring.
