Hemostatic System

Meaning

The Hemostatic System is the complex, finely regulated physiological mechanism responsible for maintaining blood fluidity within the circulatory system while also being prepared to rapidly arrest hemorrhage following vascular injury. This dynamic system involves the coordinated interaction of blood vessels, platelets, and plasma coagulation and fibrinolytic factors. A balanced hemostatic system is crucial for cardiovascular health, as dysregulation can lead to pathological clotting (thrombosis) or excessive bleeding (hemorrhage), both of which are serious clinical concerns.
