Hemoglobin Levels

Meaning

The quantitative measure of the protein hemoglobin present in a volume of whole blood, typically expressed in grams per deciliter (g/dL). Hemoglobin is the iron-containing protein within red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the peripheral tissues. Clinical assessment of these levels is a standard diagnostic tool for evaluating oxygen-carrying capacity and diagnosing conditions like anemia or polycythemia.
