Hemodialysis Patients

Meaning

Hemodialysis patients are individuals suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) whose kidneys are no longer able to adequately filter waste products and excess fluid from the blood. They rely on the process of hemodialysis, which uses an artificial kidney machine to perform these essential functions externally. This patient population often experiences significant endocrine abnormalities, including secondary hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, and altered metabolism of various hormones. Managing these hormonal imbalances is a critical component of their overall care.
