Heart Rate Variability Biometrics

Meaning

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biometrics are quantitative measures derived from the beat-to-beat variations in the time interval between consecutive heartbeats, reflecting the dynamic balance of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). These biometrics, often captured by wearable technology, provide a non-invasive, real-time assessment of an individual’s physiological stress, recovery status, and overall allostatic load. A higher, more variable HRV is generally correlated with greater parasympathetic dominance, indicating better hormonal resilience and readiness to perform.
