Health Span

Meaning

Health span is a critical measure in longevity science, defined as the period of a person’s life during which they are generally in good health, free from chronic diseases, and able to function independently. It is distinct from lifespan, which is simply the total number of years lived, focusing instead on the quality of those years. Maximizing health span is the central goal of modern wellness and preventative medicine, aiming to compress the period of morbidity at the end of life. Hormonal balance, metabolic flexibility, and cellular resilience are key determinants of a robust health span.
