Health Contingent Program Risks

Meaning

The inherent potential for negative consequences, including financial burdens, psychological distress, or privacy breaches, associated with participation in wellness programs that condition rewards or penalties on achieving specific health outcomes or meeting biometric targets. These programs, while intended to promote health, can inadvertently incentivize superficial compliance or create a coercive environment for individuals with pre-existing conditions or genetic predispositions. Clinicians must carefully evaluate these risks when recommending participation to patients.
