HCG-induced Desensitization

Meaning

HCG-induced Desensitization is a cellular regulatory process where prolonged or high-dose exposure to Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) causes the Leydig cells in the testes to become less responsive to subsequent hormonal stimulation. This temporary loss of sensitivity results in a diminished testosterone production response despite the continued presence of the stimulating hormone. It represents a classic example of receptor downregulation in endocrinology.
