Gynoid Fat

Meaning

Gynoid Fat refers to the specific anatomical pattern of subcutaneous adipose tissue accumulation characterized by the preferential storage of fat around the hips, thighs, and buttocks, resulting in a classic “pear-shaped” body silhouette. This fat distribution pattern is metabolically distinct from visceral (abdominal) fat and is generally considered to be protective, as it is associated with a significantly lower risk of developing insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The distribution is heavily influenced by estrogen levels and is the predominant pattern in premenopausal women.
