Gynecomastia

Meaning

Gynecomastia is a clinical condition characterized by the benign, non-cancerous enlargement of glandular breast tissue in males, resulting from an imbalance between the effects of estrogens and androgens. This hormonal disproportion leads to true proliferation of the breast ductal and stromal elements, differentiating it from simple adipose tissue accumulation. Clinically, it often presents during periods of natural hormonal fluctuation, such as puberty or aging, or as a side effect of certain medications.
