Gut Dysbiosis

Meaning

A state of microbial imbalance within the gastrointestinal tract, characterized by an alteration in the composition, diversity, or functional capacity of the resident gut microbiota. This disruption involves a shift from a predominance of beneficial commensal bacteria to an overgrowth of potentially pathogenic species or a significant reduction in overall microbial richness. Gut dysbiosis is clinically recognized as a critical factor in systemic inflammation, compromised immune function, and the dysregulation of the gut-hormone axis, impacting metabolic and endocrine health. Restoring eubiosis is a therapeutic priority for overall well-being.
