Gut Derived Endotoxins

Meaning

Gut Derived Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides (LPS) released from the cell walls of certain Gram-negative bacteria that reside within the intestinal lumen. These potent inflammatory molecules are physiologically contained by a healthy intestinal barrier. When the gut barrier is compromised, these endotoxins can translocate into the systemic circulation, a condition known as metabolic endotoxemia. Clinically, this systemic exposure is a significant driver of chronic low-grade inflammation, insulin resistance, and hormonal dysregulation.
