Growth Signals

Meaning

Growth signals are a diverse collection of polypeptide hormones, growth factors, and cytokines that transmit messages throughout the body to stimulate cellular proliferation, differentiation, tissue repair, and anabolic processes. Key examples include Growth Hormone (GH), Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), and various fibroblast and epidermal growth factors. These signals are fundamental to maintaining lean body mass, bone density, collagen production, and overall tissue regeneration throughout the lifespan. A decline in these signals is a hallmark of aging.
