Growth Hormone Suppression

Meaning

Growth hormone suppression is the physiological or pharmacological reduction in the secretion of Growth Hormone (GH) from the anterior pituitary gland. Physiologically, this can be a normal negative feedback response, often mediated by elevated levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). Clinically, GH suppression is sometimes therapeutically induced to manage conditions characterized by excessive GH, such as acromegaly, or it may occur pathologically due to chronic disease or specific medications.
