Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor

Meaning

The Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor (GHSR), also known as the ghrelin receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor found predominantly in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, but also in numerous peripheral tissues. This receptor is the primary target for ghrelin, the “hunger hormone,” and is responsible for mediating its powerful stimulatory effect on the release of Growth Hormone (GH). Its activation is a crucial mechanism for modulating energy balance, appetite, and the somatotropic axis.
