Growth Hormone Rhythms

Meaning

Growth hormone rhythms describe the characteristic pulsatile and circadian patterns of secretion exhibited by somatotropin, or growth hormone (GH), from the anterior pituitary gland throughout a 24-hour period. GH is not released continuously; instead, it is secreted in discrete, high-amplitude bursts interspersed with periods of very low or undetectable levels. These rhythmic pulses are fundamental to the hormone’s biological actions on growth, metabolism, and tissue repair.
