Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone Receptor

Meaning

The Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone Receptor, or GHRHR, is a crucial G protein-coupled receptor located predominantly on the somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary gland. Its sole physiological function is to bind to the hypothalamic hormone GHRH, which acts as the primary stimulator of Growth Hormone (GH) synthesis and secretion. The integrity and sensitivity of this receptor are paramount for maintaining the pulsatile, physiological release of GH, which in turn regulates metabolism, body composition, and growth. Clinical strategies often target this receptor to safely enhance endogenous GH production.
