Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR)

Meaning

The Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR) is a transmembrane protein expressed on the surface of various cells, particularly liver cells, that mediates the biological actions of Growth Hormone (GH). Upon binding to GH, the GHR initiates an intracellular signaling cascade, primarily through the JAK-STAT pathway, leading to the transcription of genes essential for growth, metabolism, and cellular proliferation. The functional density and signaling integrity of these receptors are critical determinants of an individual’s responsiveness to circulating GH.
