Growth Hormone Markers

Meaning

Growth Hormone Markers are measurable biochemical substances in the blood that reflect the secretion, action, or overall status of the Growth Hormone (GH) axis. Since GH itself is released in pulsatile bursts, direct measurement is often clinically impractical; therefore, stable downstream indicators are used as reliable markers. The primary and most clinically utilized marker is Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), which is produced primarily by the liver in response to GH stimulation. Monitoring these markers is essential for diagnosing GH deficiency or excess and for titrating replacement therapy in an endocrinology setting.
