Growth Hormone Excess

Meaning

Growth hormone excess is a clinical condition characterized by the pathological overproduction of Somatotropin, or Growth Hormone (GH), typically resulting from a benign tumor (adenoma) in the anterior pituitary gland. In children and adolescents, this leads to gigantism, characterized by excessive linear growth and tall stature. In adults, the condition is termed acromegaly, manifesting as the gradual, progressive enlargement of hands, feet, and facial features, alongside significant metabolic disturbances. This profound hormonal imbalance requires precise diagnosis and intervention to mitigate serious systemic complications and mortality risk.
