Growth Hormone Deficiency

Meaning

A clinical condition characterized by the pituitary gland’s inadequate production or secretion of Growth Hormone (GH), leading to a deficiency state that can manifest differently in children and adults. In adults, this endocrinopathy is associated with unfavorable changes in body composition, including reduced lean body mass and increased visceral fat, along with diminished bone mineral density and altered lipid profiles. Diagnosis requires specialized provocative testing to confirm the pituitary-somatotropic axis dysfunction and guide appropriate treatment.
