Growth Hormone Bolus

Meaning

A Growth Hormone Bolus refers to a substantial, discrete surge or pulsatile release of Somatotropin, or Growth Hormone (GH), into the systemic circulation. This release is a naturally occurring event, most notably during the initial hours of deep, slow-wave sleep or immediately following intense physical exertion. The bolus is functionally significant because GH acts in a dose-dependent manner to stimulate the liver’s production of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), a key anabolic mediator. The clinical focus is often on maximizing the frequency and amplitude of these natural secretion bursts for tissue repair and metabolic benefit.
