Granuloma Formation

Meaning

Granuloma formation is a specific, organized pattern of chronic inflammation where immune cells, predominantly macrophages, aggregate and wall off persistent foreign substances or infectious agents that the body cannot easily eliminate. This physiological response serves as a containment mechanism to prevent the spread of potentially harmful material. In the context of hormonal therapies, granulomas can occasionally form as a reaction to certain injected substances, representing a localized, non-infectious inflammatory response.
