GPR54 Receptor

Meaning

The GPR54 Receptor, now officially designated as KISS1R, is a G protein-coupled receptor that acts as the primary transducer for the neuropeptide kisspeptin signaling in the central nervous system. This receptor is critically expressed on GnRH neurons, making it an indispensable gatekeeper for the onset of puberty and the lifelong maintenance of reproductive function. Activation of GPR54 is the most potent known stimulus for GnRH release, underscoring its pivotal role in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.
