GPER1

Meaning

GPER1, or G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1, functions as a distinct membrane-bound estrogen receptor mediating rapid, non-genomic cellular responses. Unlike classical nuclear estrogen receptors, GPER1 initiates signaling from the cell surface. Its activation by estrogen triggers immediate intracellular cascades, influencing various physiological processes independently of direct gene transcription.
