GPER

Meaning

GPER stands for G Protein-coupled Estrogen Receptor, which is a distinct, non-classical estrogen receptor also formally known as GPR30. Unlike the traditional nuclear estrogen receptors (ER-alpha and ER-beta), GPER is primarily localized on the cell membrane and within the endoplasmic reticulum, mediating rapid, non-genomic cellular responses to estrogen. This receptor plays a critical, immediate role in mediating the diverse and rapid actions of estrogen in various tissues, including the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system.
