GPCRs

Meaning

GPCRs, an acronym for G-Protein Coupled Receptors, are a large and diverse family of cell surface receptors that represent the most common target for therapeutic drugs and are fundamental to nearly all aspects of human physiology. These transmembrane proteins detect extracellular signaling molecules, including numerous hormones, neurotransmitters, and growth factors, initiating a corresponding intracellular response. Their function is central to endocrine signaling, sensory perception, and cellular communication across multiple organ systems.
