GPCR Lifecycle

Meaning

The GPCR Lifecycle describes the dynamic sequence of functional states and regulatory processes governing G Protein-Coupled Receptors, a large family of cell surface receptors that mediate the effects of many hormones and neurotransmitters. This cycle encompasses ligand binding, receptor activation, G protein signaling, desensitization, internalization via endocytosis, and eventual recycling back to the membrane or degradation. It is a fundamental mechanism of cellular communication and hormonal signal transduction.
