Gonads

Meaning

The Gonads are the primary reproductive glands in human physiology, specifically comprising the testes in males and the ovaries in females, which perform two essential, intertwined functions. They are classified as master endocrine glands responsible for the synthesis and secretion of the major sex steroid hormones, including testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. Beyond their role in reproduction, these potent steroid hormones exert profound and widespread regulatory control over metabolic rate, bone mineral density, cardiovascular health, and neurocognitive vitality throughout the lifespan.
