Gonadotropin Response

Meaning

Gonadotropin response refers to the physiological reaction of the gonads, the ovaries or testes, to stimulation by the pituitary gonadotropin hormones, specifically luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This response is clinically measured by the resultant secretion of sex steroids, such as estradiol and testosterone, and the development of mature gametes. The magnitude and quality of this response are crucial indicators of reproductive axis integrity and ovarian or testicular reserve. A diminished or exaggerated response can signify underlying endocrine pathology.
