Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone Inhibition

Meaning

Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone Inhibition is the clinical or physiological process of suppressing the pulsatile secretion of GnRH from the hypothalamus, consequently reducing the downstream release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. This inhibitory action leads to a decrease in endogenous sex steroid production, impacting fertility and the levels of testosterone and estrogen. Clinically, this is utilized for specific therapeutic purposes, such as managing hormone-sensitive conditions or controlling fertility.
