Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Analogs

Meaning

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Analogs (GnRH Analogs) are synthetic compounds structurally similar to the naturally occurring hypothalamic peptide hormone, GnRH. These pharmaceutical agents are designed to interact with the GnRH receptors on the pituitary gland, serving either as agonists to initially stimulate and then downregulate the pituitary, or as antagonists to immediately block receptor activity. Clinically, they are used to manage hormone-sensitive conditions by controlling the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
