Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Analog

Meaning

A Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) analog is a synthetic compound structurally similar to the naturally occurring hypothalamic hormone, GnRH, but engineered to have altered pharmacological properties. These agents are used clinically to either stimulate or, more commonly, suppress the release of pituitary gonadotropins, namely Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). They are critical tools in reproductive endocrinology and in the management of hormone-sensitive cancers. Their precise action allows for targeted manipulation of the reproductive axis.
