Gonadotropin Release

Meaning

Gonadotropin release is the pulsatile secretion of the pituitary hormones Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary gland into the systemic circulation. These glycoprotein hormones are essential regulators of gonadal function, stimulating the production of sex steroids (testosterone and estrogen) and promoting gamete maturation in the testes and ovaries. This release is the central regulatory step in the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis.
