Gonadotropin Quiescence

Meaning

Gonadotropin quiescence describes a physiological state characterized by a marked suppression or minimal pulsatile release of the pituitary gonadotropin hormones, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). This state is naturally observed during prepuberty, in certain phases of the menstrual cycle, and pathologically in conditions like hypothalamic amenorrhea or secondary hypogonadism. It signifies a temporary or chronic ‘silencing’ of the reproductive axis.
