Gonadotropin Pulsatility

Meaning

The characteristic, non-continuous, and rhythmic pattern of secretion of the pituitary gonadotropins, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), into the peripheral circulation. This episodic release is fundamentally driven by the intermittent discharge of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamic pulse generator. The precise frequency and amplitude of this pulsatility are essential biological signals that dictate the appropriate function of the gonads and maintain reproductive competence.
