Gonadotropin Mimicry

Meaning

Gonadotropin mimicry describes the action of a substance, typically a drug or an abnormal hormone, that functionally imitates the biological effects of natural gonadotropins, such as Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). These substances bind to and activate the same receptors as the endogenous hormones, thereby stimulating the gonads to produce sex steroids or induce gamete maturation. This principle is clinically utilized in fertility treatments and certain endocrine therapies.
