Gonadotropin-Inhibiting Hormone

Meaning

Gonadotropin-Inhibiting Hormone, often abbreviated as GnIH, is a neuropeptide that primarily functions to suppress the release of gonadotropins, namely Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), from the anterior pituitary gland. This inhibitory action directly modulates the reproductive axis, representing a counter-regulatory mechanism to the stimulatory effects of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH).
