Gonadotropin Flare

Meaning

A gonadotropin flare refers to the transient, initial surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion from the pituitary gland. This physiological event occurs shortly after the administration of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. This temporary increase in gonadotropin levels precedes the eventual desensitization and down-regulation of GnRH receptors.
