Gonadotrophs

Meaning

Gonadotrophs are specialized endocrine cells located in the anterior pituitary gland, playing a central role in the regulation of the reproductive axis. These cells are responsible for synthesizing and secreting the gonadotropic hormones: Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Their function is absolutely critical for orchestrating pubertal development, maintaining fertility, and regulating the menstrual cycle in women and spermatogenesis in men. The activity of gonadotrophs is tightly controlled by the hypothalamus.
