Gonadotoxic Chemotherapy

Meaning

Gonadotoxic chemotherapy refers to the use of pharmacological agents in cancer treatment that exert detrimental effects on the gonads, specifically the testes in males and ovaries in females. These agents are designed to target rapidly dividing cells, which, while effective against cancer, can inadvertently impair the function of germ cells responsible for reproduction and the somatic cells responsible for hormone production within these critical endocrine organs.
